About

Negin Salehi, born on November 1, 1994, was a 27-year-old accountant working in a sound and image store on Jomhouri Street in Tehran. Residing in District 12, Fahradabad, Beharistan, she was known for her kindness, approachability, and shyness. Negin, who cherished the freedom and resilience of horses, found herself amidst the nationwide protests ignited by the death of Mahsa Amini in October 2021. On October 8, 2021, after leaving her workplace, Negin joined the demonstrators, expressing the suppressed grievances she had harbored for years.

The brutal crackdown by plainclothes officers quickly escalated, and Negin became a target. She was chased, thrown to the ground, and viciously beaten with batons until she was drenched in blood and left unconscious. Rescued by bystanders and returned home, Negin’s condition worsened, leading her family to rush her to the hospital. Unfortunately, it was too late; Negin succumbed to her injuries caused by the severe head trauma inflicted by the baton strikes.

Following her death, Negin’s family faced threats from security forces, demanding silence and prohibiting any form of public mourning or media coverage. Her burial in Behesht Zahra, section 5, row 9, was carried out under oppressive silence, enforced by the regime’s security apparatus.

Negin’s untimely death, just a month shy of her 28th birthday, adds to the grim toll of the Iranian government’s crackdown on peaceful protestors. Her story, a poignant reminder of the human cost of the struggle for freedom and dignity in Iran, implores us to remember and continue the fight for the rights and freedoms she and many others have died for.
