About

Mahsa Moghavi (July 16, 2003 – September 22, 2022) was a dedicated Taekwondo champion and fitness enthusiast from Esfahan, Iran. Her passion for sports and commitment to physical fitness were evident throughout her life. Mahsa’s journey in Taekwondo was marked by numerous achievements, earning her multiple medals and eventually attaining the prestigious black belt in the sport.

However, her life was tragically cut short during the tumultuous events of Iran’s 2022 uprising. On September 22, 2022, Mahsa became one of the victims of the government’s crackdown on protesters in Esfahan. According to reports, she was fatally shot by security forces, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

The medical report revealed the severity of her injuries, indicating numerous bullet holes in her body, particularly in her spine, left arm, and left forearm. The report further stated that Mahsa’s body was covered in blood-soaked clothing, with visible signs of bleeding from her nose and mouth.

The official cause of Mahsa Moghavi’s death, as determined by the forensic medical report, was shock resulting from internal hemorrhage following the impact of high-speed projectile to her body.

Despite her tragic demise, Mahsa’s memory lives on as a symbol of courage and resilience in the face of injustice. Her family continues to seek justice for her untimely death, demanding accountability from the authorities responsible for her killing.

In commemoration of Mahsa’s life and legacy, her family, friends, and supporters gathered at her gravesite in the Esfahan cemetery on July 25, 2022, her 18th birthday. However, their solemn tribute was met with further harassment, as security forces detained Mahsa’s family members, including her mother, father, and brother, shortly after the gathering.

Even in death, Mahsa Moghavi’s spirit remains a beacon of hope for justice and freedom, inspiring others to stand up against oppression and tyranny.
