About

Amirhossein Basati, born on December 13, 2006, in Kermanshah, was a 15-year-old boy whose life was tragically cut short during the nationwide protests in Kermanshah on September 21, 2022. A bullet, fired directly at his chest by government suppression forces, claimed his young life. For eight days, Amirhossein’s family was left in the dark, unaware of their son’s fate, desperately searching everywhere for him. Eventually, governmental institutions contacted Amirhossein Basati’s family, instructing them to collect his body from Taleghani Hospital in Kermanshah. His body was handed over to his family on Thursday, October 8, 2022, after security forces obtained a written commitment from them. Amirhossein’s funeral was held under strict security measures in the cemetery of Darkhor Hassanabad village, part of Islam Abad-e Gharb county.

The gravestone of Amirhossein Basati carries a poignant inscription that reflects the young martyr’s courage and the profound loss felt by his loved ones: “I came here empty-handed, but at the time of farewell, I clenched my fist in your soil and took away a fistful of honor.”

Amirhossein Basati’s untimely death sheds light on the brutal reality faced by protesters, especially the young, in Iran. His journey to buy stationery amidst the turmoil tragically ended when he was shot at close range with a shotgun by Islamic Republic’s anti-riot forces near Modarres Street in Kermanshah. That same night, two other citizens of Kermanshah, Reza Shahparnia and Mrs. Minoo Majidi, also fell victim to direct gunfire by government forces.

Amirhossein’s story is a tragic testament to the price of seeking justice and freedom in the face of oppressive forces. His family’s agonizing search and the eventual revelation of his fate through a video on social media highlight the cruel uncertainty and fear that grip families of the victims. Amirhossein Basati’s final resting place in Darkhor Hassanabad underlines the young lives lost and the ongoing struggle for dignity and rights in Iran.
