Amir Javad Asaadzadeh, a 36-year-old man from Mashhad, was arrested on the evening of 28th of Aban 1401 (19th November 2022) while writing slogans in Pirouzi Boulevard, Mashhad, by Basij forces. After his arrest, he was taken to Vakil Abad prison in Mashhad where he was brutally beaten until the early morning. His severely injured body was then abandoned at the Haft-e-Tir police station.
An eyewitness reported that Asaadzadeh was still able to speak at this time. At the Haft-e-Tir police station, a case was filed against him, and he was sent to a detention center. However, less than two hours later, he lost consciousness due to head injuries and was taken by law enforcement officers to the nearest hospital, Javad al-Aemmeh Heart Hospital in Mashhad.
Doctors upon examining Amir Javad Asaadzadeh realized that he had died due to brain trauma and a blow to the skull. Once this news was reported to the police station, the case was referred to the intelligence department in Mashhad. Around 5 AM on 29 Aban, plainclothes officers arrived at the hospital and took his body away.
A relative of Asaadzadeh, in an interview with International, stated that law enforcement officers also prevented medical treatment and resuscitation efforts when he was being transferred to the hospital. They mentioned that when Asaadzadeh’s sister went to identify his body at the hospital, she found that his body was severely injured, with almost no uninjured area on his body.
Eventually, Amir Javad Asaadzadeh’s body was buried on 2nd of Azar 1401 (23rd November 2022) under strict security measures in the Behesht Javad al-Aemmeh cemetery in Mashhad.
