About

Aida Rostami, a general practitioner, anonymously provided medical assistance to protesters injured during the protests in the Ekbatan neighborhood of Tehran. On December 12, 2022, she left her house to acquire necessary supplies, intending to visit one of the night pharmacies. However, she went missing afterward. The following day, Ekbatan Police contacted her family, claiming they should come to receive her body, attributing her death to a “car accident.” When Aida’s family insisted on seeing her body, it became evident that her injuries bore no resemblance to a typical accident. Her hands were broken, the right side of her face was shattered, her nose was broken, and her left eye was completely emptied. Visible bruises were apparent on other parts of her body. After the news of Aida Rostami’s abduction and death surfaced, security forces changed their narrative from an “accident” to “falling from a pedestrian bridge.”
In the forensic report, the cause of Aida Rostami’s death is stated as “blunt force trauma,” a description unsuitable for either an accident or falling from height.

On December 25, 2022, Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, declared that Aida Rostami’s boyfriend had thrown her off a bridge. ISlamic regim authorities in Iran have repeatedly employed similar narratives, aside from governmental killings, for young women who were killed during the protests, like Mahsa Amini and Nika Shakeri.
