About

Hamidreza Gholjeh was a 17-year-old Turk Azerbaijani born on April 16, 2005, in Asadabad, Hamedan. Seeking to support his family, he migrated to Tehran and found employment at a local restaurant. On the evening of September 22, 2022, while stepping out to repair his mobile phone, he encountered the turbulent streets of Tehran amidst widespread protests. Tragically, he fell victim to the direct gunfire of Iranian security forces in Palestine Square. His untimely demise shook his family and community.

Despite the grief, his family faced further distress as they were threatened not to disclose the circumstances of his death to the media and were instructed to bury him discreetly. His father, a simple laborer, struggled emotionally and financially after the loss of his son.

Hamidreza’s 7-year-old brother also suffered psychologically, refraining from attending school due to the trauma of losing his sibling. The grief extended beyond his immediate family, impacting those who knew him, highlighting the devastating toll of state violence on individuals and communities.

Following his tragic passing, his body was returned to his family three days later. He was laid to rest in Behesht-e Zahra, Asadabad, Hamedan, where his memory remains cherished by his loved ones and remembered as a victim of the struggle for justice and freedom in Iran.
